Tanzania is a country that speaks of infinite beauty. This is seen through the glory of nature and through the people themselves.
—Sue Devitt
No matter where I travel, or whom I meet along the way, I discover a universal desire to improve and beautify our lives. It was the Masai women, whom I was privileged to visit in Tanzania, who reminded me of this. As we stood under an Acacia tree shielded from the hot African sun and talked about village life, I was taken by surprise when one woman removed half of her magnificent beaded necklaces and placed them over my head.
In Masai culture, I learned, these brilliantly colored adornments are integral to the concept of beauty. So much so that women wear them even when embarking on the difficult daily journey of retrieving their family's daily supply of water, a heavy load that women carry for miles.
I was overjoyed to be able to share with the Masai in return, by offering a water-solution program that improves the quality of their lives and is supported by Sue Devitt Beauty customers. Our Hippo Water Roller program, which provides rolling tanks of water thereby lightening the load of village women, is funded by a percentage of sales from my Serengeti Destination Eye Palette, which offers stunning color and deep hydration to the delicate eye area.
I am thrilled to see beauty and hydration come together through my work – which is a perfect example of our company mantra: "The generosity of nature creates inspiration for beauty. We can follow its example in creating beauty through generosity".
'Beauty' in any culture is something that connects us as women—and connecting with these cultures is a thing of beauty in itself.
